Manager, Project Management Office (PMO Manager)

ATL Technology has an immediate opening for an outstanding Manager for our Project Management Office (PMO Manager) to support technical device engineering and customer engineering sales support operations with the potential to grow in responsibility and contribution at our Springville, Utah headquarters location.  The (PMO Manager reports to the VP Engineering, and is responsible for day-to-day management of technical device engineering and customer sales engineering project management for the company.  The PMO Manager directly manages seven (7) individuals (e.g, 5 PMs in Utah, 1 PM in Oregon, and 1 PM on the US east coast; additionally the PMO Manager will liaison with the executive team and support as requested an additional seven (7) additional PMs in China. It is anticipated that the primary work of the PMO Manager will be performed at the headquarters location in Springville, UT; working remotely through video conferencing and periodic travel  (approximately 25% to Costa Rica, China, and other sites) is expected. English is the company operating language; and knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and/or Spanish is a plus.

Beyond the 'what' responsibilities of this position, we are looking for the 'who' that best fits our needs; we are seeking a great fitting candidate for the PMO Manager that has the following demonstrated modes of thinking, acting, preparing, behaving.

Under the direction of the VP Engineering, the PMO Manager overseas and directs all day-to-day technical device and customer sales engineering project management functions within the company; including but not limited to; managing our team of PMs responsible for project management in four stages of company operations: Initiate (sales pipeline engineering PM support); Plan (new project introductions, PM, and planning for new work under contract); Execute (PM active projects technical device engineering underway); and Close (transitioning work from development into manufacturing production). Presently the combination of these four modes of PM encompass 70+ ongoing projects that are managed by the team, and we anticipate the number of projects to be managed to increase, and that is why we are seeking a top-flight PMO Manager to join us at this time. The PMO is an active participant of our global management team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

            Personnel Management:

  • Responsible for inspiring, mentoring and building a high performance, functional PMO team
  • Develop & maintain process & procedures for the PMO based on PMBOK methodology
  • Develop KPIs and reporting for Portfolio & Project status and health
  • Develop & maintain resource management reporting capability to support PMO & Engineering Organization in balancing project priority and workload constraints
  • Develop and improve the company's ability to manage 70+ projects simultaneously with great success, efficiency, and error reduction.
  • Provide talent management for PMO team including but not limited to:

o Annual evaluations

o Bi-Annual and Quarterly Goal Alignment to Corporate objectives

o Competency mentoring

Project Management:

  • Oversees project quality throughout project life cycle: Initiate, Plan, Execute & Close
  • Coordinate & develop project proposals with Sale & Engineering teams
  • Perform & report on resource impact analysis based on the project period of performance
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external customers and company stakeholders
  • Capture & maintain project ROI metrics
  • Develop project budget, schedules, risk/mitigation & communication plans according to agreed milestones, budget & deliverables
  • Ensures the project’s objectives and expectations are clearly defined and documented, and well understood between the customer and ATL
  • Responsible for reviewing scope & content of the project Statement of Work to ensure adequate provisions such as NRE, Tooling, Qualification Testing, Prototypes, etc. are accounted for to execute the project successfully
  • Maintain project plans as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements with the appropriate change process in accordance with the project Statement of Work
  • Responsible for clear, concise accurate and effective communication to all parties within project scope. This includes both internal and external customers
  • Responsible for scope management, coordinating team member work, identifying potential risk and managing risk (technical and business)
  • Responsible for constructively escalating issues when necessary
  • Review drawings, review test plans and protocols
  • Ensures deliverables are properly reviewed and ready prior to providing them to the customer, and has the prime responsibility to ensure the customer has a continued perception of ATL’s excellence in capabilities and products
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of project
  • Coordinate & manage customer deliverables review & approvals with issue management tracking
  • Holding Engineers and other team members accountable for the quality and timeliness of work
  • Travel up to 25% of time
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business with at least 10 years of progressive Program/Project Management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years Personnel management experience
  • PMP certification required
  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications and databases
  • Experience with ISO 13485 and FDA QSR 820 and the impacts to product design, project schedules and documentation requirements.
  • Proficient with Project Management Tools: Workfront or MS Project
  • Project Management of Medical Device &/or Consumer electronics preferred
  • Fluency in Mandarin and/or Spanish would be preferred

The compensation for this position is industry competitive and includes profit sharing bonus opportunity.
