MEP Account Executive(s) / MEP Project Executives

Air Systems Inc, an EMCOR company, has several immediate openings for outstanding sales savvy MEP Account Executives / MEP Project Executives with ‘difference-making' capability and track record to manage current Air Systems client accounts and cultivate new business development opportunities through the pre-construction phase.  The positions are primarily based in our San Jose headquarters location.  Additional employment opportunity is available for candidates living near our other regional facilities. The Account Executive will report to the MEP Vice President, who is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and closing business opportunities.

Typically our Account Executives directly manage two to three "A" level customers, generating $20M per year in sales, and two to three "B" level customers with lesser sales that have opportunity to become “A” level through cultivation and business development. The Account Executive / Project Executive has oversight of current customer and new business development project estimating, design, pre-construction, project management, scope letters, bid forms, bid interview packages, and day-to-day pre-construction email communication, calls, occasional site visits, and design meeting participation.

Ideally, for our Account Executive / Project Executive positions, we are looking for PEs, seasoned MEP engineers and MEP construction PMs with sales and business development acumen. Our Account Executives manage current customer and new customer pre-construction processes, including proactively managing the initial pre-construction project design, and identifying project layout challenges early and involving our Air Systems team resources proactively. As envisioned, our Account Executives will manage a current book of business (approximately two-thirds of expected production); and the Account Executive will also be expected to cultivate and develop new business (reflecting approximately one-third of the MEP expected business development and sales activity).

Finally, while we will consider any highly skilled, experienced, and good-fitting MEP account executive candidate. We have an internal preference to find for this position those candidates with 5 years minimum of sales experience and technical knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems, engineering expertise, project management experience, etc.. Additionally helpful is prior experience with general contractors and subcontractors performing mechanical, plumbing, process piping, building automation, balancing, and insulation. Further, if you possess a degree in mechanical engineering, or are a current California Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer, or are a LEED certified engineer… you have a technical background similar to our highest performing Account Executives, and we strongly encourage you to apply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and qualify business opportunities
  • Develop and maintain sales contacts
  • Follow up on sales/project leads
  • Establish long-term, on-going relationships with clients
  • Meeting established revenue and profit goals
  • Prepare client proposals and estimates
  • Respond to RFQ’s
  • Lead Project Management Team for projects sold

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in construction management, engineering operations, architecture, business or other related discipline or equivalent experience preferred
  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, particularly mechanical engineering a plus
  • Minimum of five years experience in the MEP construction industry
  • Minimum of five years in the role of Project Management experience
  • Minimum of five years experience in the design-build construction industry
  • California Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer, helpful and preferred
  • LEED Certified Engineer, useful and preferred

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English
  • PC proficiency to include (but not limited to) Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) with the ability to learn company specific software; those with highly developed MS Excel skills and capabilities are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project (and/or other project planning software), Timberline, Procore, etc. helpful and preferred
  • Use of video conferencing technology like Zoom, GoToMeeting, Webex helpful
  • Thorough knowledge of construction costs, scheduling, estimating, purchasing and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
  • Demonstrated sales training, sales capability, and developed interpersonal skills
  • Possess good client management and goodwill building ability
  • Capacity to motivate, lead and boost the morale of project team members and stakeholders
  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
  • Excellent business judgment demonstrated by consistently achieving profitability objectives and strong project close-outs maintaining client and subcontractor relationships in good standing

Compensation
For this position we are targeting $170k to $180k base salary*, plus incentive compensation opportunity lifting total compensation potential to $250k+ and beyond; by way of information our top performers in the $300k+ range.

* =  This top pay target for base compensation is for someone who could come in and contribute immediately because they are already operating with clients in our marketplace.
