The Candidate

The ideal DOM candidate will be one who appreciates Ankrom Moisan's creative diversity, understands the value and quality of good design, attracts our clients and enjoys both player and coach roles. We are looking for a Director of Marketing that possesses an abundance of short and long-term strategic insights and has prior company experience with creative industries of architecture, interior design, urban planning, branding and graphic design. The Director of Marketing will serve on the Board as an Advisor collaborating with the firm’s twelve Managing Principals who lead the nine design teams. Ankrom Moisan’s horizontal organization and ownership structure requires flexibility and simple systems that will have lasting effects on the grassroots improvement initiatives embedded in the company culture. The ideal DOM candidate will have a deep understanding of inbound marketing, outbound marketing, corporate communication, messaging, promotional campaign development, marketing strategy, and positioning. Additionally, they will have an abundance of business acumen which will attract and capture more market opportunities and grow the company 'smartly' and 'uniquely'. The Responsibilities of our DOM

EXECUTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise the President and Executive Team (known as the Board of Directors) on marketing and communications matters. Serve as an advisory member along with the two other advisors, the CFO and HR Director.
  • Be proactive and forward-looking, bringing up issues and suggested solutions that the Executive Team should contemplate many days prior to their need for implementation.
  • Provide assistance with corporate strategy development playing a key advisory role to the Ankrom Moisan leadership team (the Board and the Managing Principals) on corporate communications, marketing strategy, inbound marketing, lead generation, and safeguarding the company, our team members, and our clients.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to develop, deliver, and monitor Ankrom Moisan's brand promise as a firm as well as working with the market leaders to develop and deliver the nested brand promise for each market.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage marketing, communications, and KPI driven dashboards to track internal and external marketing data.
  • Create and monitor, along with the CFO, monthly reports in Deltek regarding all promotional efforts that populate the monthly fuel gauge as well as predict workflow and revenue in the upcoming twelve months.
  • Establish and maintain relations with key AMA clients by developing, expanding, and monitoring specific client care programs.
  • Develop a strategic company presence at all highly impactful public events (eg. industry and market seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.).
  • Prepare and oversee the marketing and communications standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain knowledge of marketing trends, developments, and best practices in architectural, interior design, and branding firms in our markets. Understand the marketing strategies of AMA competitors and analyze how AMA’s strategy compares and can compete successfully.
  • Develop an annual marketing budget in conjunction with market leaders and present to Board for approval. Create and achieve financial objectives identified in the budget, schedule expenditures, variance analysis, and corrective action initiation.
  • Create and maintain a research database with AMA specific market information.
  • Manage the creation of all marketing collateral and support tools. Command a complete knowledge of all AMA marketing products and their value. Have the enthusiasm to develop new products and marketing systems in the future.
  • Develop new uses for existing marketing products by analyzing statistics regarding market development, acquiring and analyzing data, and consulting with internal and external sources.
  • Develop a strategy for a thorough knowledge and oversight of all AMA completed/built project information and a compulsion to organize the information into a useful database for fast and factual data retrieval by anyone in the firm.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the President or Board.

PRINCIPAL AND MARKET LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage communications and marketing processes and systems throughout the firm using a player-coach style that focuses on improving player performance throughout the leadership team and executive team; not by compulsion or demand, but by persuasion, encouragement, coaching, and developing systems, KPIs, and support methods that make doing good work easier, desirable, and adopted by all.
  • Understand and give feedback to the architects and interior designers as to the value of their marketing activities and coach them in ways to improve the value of those activities.
  • Effectively plan and communicate marketing, messaging, and communication priorities for all Managing Principals. Able to work effectively with all people throughout the organization.
  • Managing the team that's preparing proposals and supporting the principals throughout the enterprise in marketing and business development.
  • Actively guide the creation of the marketing plans by market type, region, and office annually and tracks progress throughout the year. Provides short and long-term market forecasts and reports by directing market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Administer and improve the annual client survey by market leaders and occasionally orchestrates specific independent client feedback surveys to understand the market reaction to AMA services.
  • Seek to always understand AMA clients and gets feedback on what strategies are most effective.
  • Work closely with Interiors and Branding to ensure job pursuits are involving the right people and using the right amount of marketing resources. Help major project pursuits with specific strategies in conjunction with project leaders and Managing Principals.

MARKETING TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the marketing team by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Oversee marketing staff in each office and help create superb, stable teams in all offices with career-oriented members.
  • Maintain marketing team member performance by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising performance results.
  • Develop marketing staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and growth opportunities.
  • Work constantly to improve the service of the marketing team while holding the firm Managing Principals and leaders accountable for their work in all marketing projects.
  • Oversee all firm-wide recognition efforts and create and track annual goals to increase AMA recognition in the region and world, especially through publications and awards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing personal and departmental goals with a focus on results.
  • The performance of the DOM will be evaluated on their ability to increase our success in landing contracts through our marketing efforts. 

The Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sales, graphic design or an equivalent number of years of experience; MBA preferred.
  • Seven (7+) years of related experience in a marketing management and executive position.
  • Experience with design service industry companies required: architecture, interior design, graphic design, urban planning, branding, creative engineering services.
  • Experience in utilizing inbound marketing services and tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in compiling and developing metrics that support decision making for resource allocation and marketing/project pursuits.
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite skills required.
  • Travel is anticipated.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with ability.
