Positive Train Control Engineer (PTC Engineer)
In 2008, the U.S. Government introduced legislation that requires the implementation of improved safety measures. The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 as enacted by Congress, requires all Class I railroads and passenger rail operators to implement a mandatory Positive Train Control (PTC) collision avoidance system. PTC is a predictive collision avoidance technology that can stop a train before an accident occurs.
As Stadler’s Utah based PTC engineer, you are responsible for overseeing and leading the PTC Onboard system integration in the double deck EMU Caltrain project. You will ensure that the PTC system is integrated and authorized according to the requirements from Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board(JPB).
Duties
- Specify the PTC System Integration Concept in Caltrain EMU trains including Interoperable Incremental Train Control System (I-ITCS) functionality and Communication Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) functions.
- Specify the Electrical, Mechanical and SW interface for the integration of PTC System including (I-ITCS and CBOSS) in Caltrain EMU trains
- Specify Onboard PTC Test and Authorization Plan in collaboration with PTC supplier and Authorization team.
- Lead the technical discussions with PTC (I-ITCS & CBOSS) Supplier.
- Chair the technical discussions between PTC onboard supplier and wayside supplier
- Customer interface for all the PTC specific issues
- Act as a bridge between customer and Stadler Engineering team in Switzerland
- Foresee the Installation of PTC and solve any open issue in the installation of PTC on the trains.
- Collaborate to ensure FAI (First Article Inspection) planning and preparation for all phases of the project
- Ensure the comprehensive and accurate documentation as is relevant to the successful delivery of the vehicles to the customer
- As needed, perform and assist in audits (internally and of suppliers)
Qualifications
- Several years of experience in Safety Systems in Railways
- Deep PTC know-how. Knowhow of CBOSS (preferred)
- Fluent in English and willingness to learn German (preferred)
- Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering
- Purposeful and result-oriented communicator
- Solid computer skills (MS- Office)
- Willingness to travel most between Switzerland, San Francisco and Salt Lake City
